"The term 'Chocolate' Havanese isn't actually the coat color of the breed. Chocolate is actually the pigment color of the Havanese. The coat color may in fact be any color, but if the pigment (nose, eyerims, pads of feet etc) is chocolate then, your Havanese is in fact a chocolate. A.J. (To The Left) is actually a red coated chocolate and Callie (below) is a white coated chocolate. Highborn is thrilled to offer a variety of colors & we are constantly amazed not only over the variation of colors but also are proud over the health & temperament of all of our pups....regardless of color, Highborn has been blessed to produce top quality pups for every family!

Chocolate Coat Coloring of the Havanese
~~While the Havanese has gained popularity over the past few years, it is still considered a rare breed....and the chocolate colored Havanese is rarer still. Both parents must carry a chocolate gene to produce a chocolate puppy. The chocolate coat of the Havanese can vary from a very light Café Au Lait (See Koda above)color to a very dark chocolate color. Chocolates may also be a chocolate sable, chocolate with tan points (see Felix above), chocolate brindle, & chocolate silver. Chocolates may also be highlighted or tinted gold, red (see Mischief/Missy above) or a grey/ash color. How do you know if a Havanese is chocolate?? 'Chocolate' is actually the color of their pigment and therefore they will always have a brown nose, rims of the lips & eyes will be liver color or brown and many times the pads of their feet will be brown.
The Eyes Have It
~~The eyes of a Havanese newborn have blue eyes. This can vary from medium to dark blue. The blue iris gradually changes color and the final color of a chocolate dog can vary from dark or chestnut brown, medium brown & can also be hazel, very light brown or amber. Different shades of green are also acceptable. The chocolate Havanese eyes are very similar to the colors of our human eyes. All shades of brown, hazel or amber are common. The eye color combined with the almond shape creates a nearly human expression that cause this breed to be completely captivating!!
